Inpatient satisfaction survey in East Tallinn Central Hospital and other hospitals in Estonia

In April, a satisfaction survey will be conducted among inpatients.

The six largest hospitals in Estonia (East Tallinn Central Hospital, Tartu University Hospital, North Estonia Medical Centre, West Tallinn Central Hospital, Ida-Viru Central Hospital and Pärnu Hospital) have been organising joint annual patient satisfaction surveys since 2011, which play a significant part in monitoring and improving the quality of health care services.

This April, we ask inpatients to assess their satisfaction with health care services. Patients are asked to assess their satisfaction with hospital care and the attitudes and explanations of doctors, nurses and midwives; information provided about tests and procedures and the use of medicines; and instructions for coping with illnesses at home. The questionnaire takes into account all of the key factors affecting patients' satisfaction with inpatient health care services, allowing hospitals to assess 26 different aspects of patient contentment.

The survey is based on a questionnaire in Estonian and Russian, developed jointly by the hospital quality working group.

The questionnaire is given to patients the day before they leave the hospital. The survey is anonymous and voluntary for patients. If a patient cannot complete the questionnaire themselves due to their health condition but agrees to do it, the patient's answers can be filled in by a nurse or the patient's companion. We ask patients to slip the completed questionnaires in the "We value your feedback" mailbox.

The feedback received from the answers to the questionnaires helps improve the quality of health care services and increase patient satisfaction.
