Methacholine challenge test

The methacholine challenge test is used to evaluate the hyperactivity of airways.

The methacholine challenge test is, in essence, a provocation test – it is used to try to provoke a bronchospasm. A positive result indicates hyperactivity of the bronchi, which may be characteristic of asthma; a negative result, however, very likely rules out asthma.
