Joint injection

A joint injection is needed to remove the fluid inside the swollen and painful joint and inject medication.

The removed synovial fluid can be sent to a laboratory to be tested for crystals, inflammatory cells and microbes. In case of inflammation, a medication (glucocorticoid) is injected into the joint.

The necessity of the procedure is decided by the treating physician.
