Our centre deals with the diagnostics, treatment and hearing rehabilitation of ear-nose-throat diseases amongst adults and children. The centre includes the clinics of ear-nose-throat diseases together with the offices of the Hearing Centre and voice disorders.

Kõrva-nina-kurgu

In 1927, Tallinn City Government found the funds for the furnishing and opening of the office of ear-nose-throat diseases at the first hospital of Tallinn. In 1940, an independent department of ear-nose-throat diseases was opened at the first hospital of Tallinn (later Tallinn Republican Clinic Hospital and Tallinn Republic Hospital) the department of ear-nose-throat.

The Centre of Ear-nose-throat Diseases was created in 2011 and it consists of the outpatient surgery and inpatient care at the Magdaleena hospital, the clinic and Hearing Centre and at Ravi unit and Tõnismäe clinic.

The Centre of Ear-nose-throat Diseases deals with the following:

  • Nose, larynx and middle-ear laser surgery
  • Larynx micro-surgical surgeries

Phoniatrics and laryngology

The office of laryngology was established in 1987. Since 2010, we have been the first centre dealing with functional voice disorders in Estonia that is in compliance with international standards. The laryngologist at the voice disorder office uses the newest video-endoscopic apparatus and stroboscopy to diagnose the diseases of the larynx and vocal cords. Speech therapists are also a part of the voice disorders office team.

Since 2012, 16 April is celebrated under the leadership of our voice office, as international voice day, with a scientific conference.

The cabinet of voice research has carried out joint research with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Tallinn University and the Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu. The research results have been repeatedly presented at conferences in Estonia and abroad.

The doctors and nurses in the unit of ear-nose-throat diseases are lectors at the training of East Tallinn Central Hospital as well as outside of it for colleagues and the specialists and nurses for other fields.

The ear-nose-throat and otolaryngology services are broad-based – starting from regular consultations to complex microsurgical otolaryngological surgeries and to endoscopic paranasal sinus surgeries and nose plastic surgery.

Six (6) nurses are admitting independently. They fit and install hearing aids, deal with the training of patients with dizziness, consult patients before surgery and do rhinomanometry.

The centre is a study and practice base for the residents of otorhinolaryngology of the University of Tartu's medical faculty. In addition, we are a training centre for otorhinolaryngologists, general practitioners, allergists and for other residents. We are a practice base for the nursing students of Tallinn And Tartu Health Care College.

Patients with reduced mobility should contact the Audiomed hearing centre at Kotka Health Centre (Kotka 12, Tallinn) to purchase a new hearing aid or set up and/or repair an existing hearing aid purchased from us. This service is provided under the same conditions as in our hospital.
