East Tallinn Central Hospital Opened a Breast Health Centre

29.01.2024

During its 12 years of operation, over 60,000 people have visited the Breast Health Office of East Tallinn Central Hospital, and the interest of patients towards the service is strong. Increased attention to breast diseases requires the medical system to be ready to provide high-quality service to patients with breast problems, and East Tallinn Central Hospital has now created a special Breast Health Centre for this purpose.

“We offer fast and smooth diagnostics services for patients with breast complaints, multidisciplinary treatment when the cancer diagnosis has been confirmed, and further monitoring. We are here to solve any breast-related concern,” said Dr. Gabor Szirko, the Head of Breast Health Centre.

In the Breast Health Centre team, specially trained midwives play an important role: they organize the patient’s health journey, and, if necessary, refer them to a radiologist or a breast surgeon. This makes high-quality help more accessible for more women – a model that has also been adopted by other centres in Estonia.

Annually, over 5’000 people visit the Breast Health Office, and the interest towards the service has grown. The early detection of breast cancer in Estonia has been in a poor state compared to other European countries, but signs of improvement can be seen thanks to the joint efforts of doctors dealing with breast diseases, the Health Insurance Fund and the women who raise breast awareness.

“We as the Breast Health Centre wish to be a reliable partner for family doctors, health centres and health clinics all over Estonia,” said Dr. Szirko.

The Breast Health Centre is located at the Magdaleena Health Centre at Pärnu mnt 104. Both men and women are welcome to make an appointment. You can book an appointment at the Breast Health Centre by calling at (+372) 666 1900.
