Joint injection under ultrasound guidance

The rheumatologist punctures the joint under ultrasound guidance, extracts the inflammatory joint fluid (if present) and injects the medication, if necessary (glucocorticoid, a derivative of hyaluronic acid).

Joints located deeper (hip joints) within the body or with a more complex structure (shoulder-arm joint) must be injected under ultrasound guidance.
