Palliative treatment of bone metastases
Men primarily develop bone metastases with prostate cancer and women develop them with breast cancer.
Palliative isotope treatment is indicated for patients with bone metastases who have bone pain and whose pain cannot be alleviated with regular drugs.
Isotope treatment uses two kinds of drugs for bone pain – 153Sm-EDTMP (Quadramet®), 89Sr-chloride (Metastron®) – that enter the bones via blood circulation and affect the bone lesions, alleviating bone pain. The procedure could be performed in an outpatient or inpatient setting (the patient shall be hospitalised for one day).
You can come to the treatment only with a specialist’s referral.
