World Patient Safety Day is celebrated on 17 September. The objective of Patient Safety Day is to raise awareness of safety issues and encourage everyone to give more attention to deviations and hazardous situations that may occur during treatment and potentially harm the health of patients or healthcare professionals.

This year, Patient Safety Day is focussed on maternal and newborn safety. A webinar is held to provide an overview of the current situation and development in the field. The webinar will address newborn safety, baby-friendly hospitals as well as the role of midwives.

Vivian Arusaar, Head Midwife of East Tallinn Central Hospital Women’s Clinic, will talk in more detail about maternity care during COVID-19 conditions.

“Maternity care, including pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period, has made our work much more complicated in the context of COVID-19,” says Arusaar. “Regardless of the changed circumstances, we must do all we can to make sure the mother and child are in good health and feeling well.”

The World Health Organization named 17 September World Patient Safety Day. This day will be celebrated for the third time in 2021.

Introducing the concept of patient safety and promoting a safe healthcare service culture is a continuous priority for East Tallinn Central Hospital.
