The Centre of Sterilisation of East Tallinn Central Hospital on Ravi Street has undergone renovations and is ready to start work. The new washer disinfectors and autoclaves of the renewed centre can hold larger volumes and are more powerful. The working surface has also increased.

“The centre was last renovated in 2006,” says Head of the Centre Kairi Kukk.“A modernised Centre of Sterilisation can better serve the hospital even under the current difficult circumstances caused by the pandemic.”

Sterilisation is one of the most important procedures for ensuring a clean working environment in the hospital. The Centre of Sterilisation takes care of the sterilisation of medical devices to prepare them for re-use during surgery and other procedures of a surgical nature. The centre handles the maintenance of all medical accessories from accepting used accessories to issuing sterile accessories.

East Tallinn Central Hospital Centre of Sterilisation has 15 employees. The centre works for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and 170-200 operation kits and hundreds of packages of various medical devices are taken care of and sterilised in a single day.

As of 2005, the Centre of Sterilisation has been a leading provider of training events on the maintenance and sterilisation of medical devices.
