Collecting and storing stem cells

Elumus is the first licensed company in Estonia to organise the collection and storage of stem cells. Elumus cooperates with the maternity ward of East Tallinn Central Hospital.

Umbilical cord stem cells can only be collected at the moment of the birth. The procedure is simple and does not cause any pain or discomfort to the mother or the child. Immediately after giving birth, a trained midwife takes samples of umbilical cord blood and tissue, placing them in a collection kit that is then sent by courier to the cell bank. The cells in the bank are tested and inspected. If the cell samples meet all of the quality requirements, they will be placed into cold storage for decades.
