Pregnancy is a wonderful time – and we will be there for you on this exciting journey

You got a positive pregnancy test?

Come and have your pregnancy registered!

Your morning pregnancy test shows two lines. Congratulations, you are pregnant! After getting a positive test, book an appointment with a midwife by calling the reception desk at 666 1900, or on the Health Portal.

The best time to visit a midwife is in weeks 6–9 of your pregnancy – your baby will be nicely visible on ultrasound. How far you are along is counted in weeks and the calculation starts from the first day of your last menstrual period.

First visit to the midwife

We suggest you come in for the appointment 10–15 minutes earlier and go to the reception desk first. Bring an identity document with you. Our midwife appointments are available at both the maternity counselling centre at Ravi 18 and the Magdaleena Health Centre at Pärnu mnt 104.

At the first appointment, the midwife will perform the first ultrasound, which can show your baby and its heartbeats from the sixth week of pregnancy onwards, and will calculate the estimated pregnancy week and the due date based on the baby’s measurements. The midwife will also provide you with referrals for further analyses and screenings.

The first blood test and urine tests should usually be given at the tenth week of pregnancy. For blood tests, you should come to our laboratory in the morning with an empty stomach, without eating or drinking. Our laboratories are located on the second at Ravi 18 (block C), and in Magdaleena Outpatient Clinic at Pärnu mnt 104. All laboratories are open every workday from 7:30 AM.

Screenings during pregnancy

During pregnancy, at least two ultrasounds are performed on all women:

  • Measuring nuchal translucency during the 11th to 13th week of pregnancy
  • The analysis of the baby’s anatomy during the 20th to 21st week of pregnancy.

These analyses are free of charge. In case of medical indications, additional ultrasounds will be performed. In addition, we offer optional ultrasound analyses for a fee.

Screenings during the 1st trimester

OSCAR-test – ultrasound + blood serum test

  • A blood test is taken on the 11th week of pregnancy. We take the content of two markers (fb-hCG+papp-a). The results will be entered into a special computer program ViewPoint along with additional information like your ethnic background, the number of previous births, extent of pregnancy, weight, height, other risk factors and concurrent diseases.
  • During the 11th to 13th + 6 weeks of pregnancy, there will be an ultrasound analysis. During this, the back of the head of the foetus or the so-called nuchal translucency will be observed. In addition, we check for the presence of the nose bone, heartbeat rate, flow of blood on the tricuspid valve and ductus venosus. If the foetus has increased nuchal translucency, there is an increased chance of chromosome disorders and additional testing is required.

Screenings during the 2nd trimester

Analysis of the foetal anatomy

We use 3D and 4D ultrasound technologies for this analysis. We check whether the child has visible deviations in their internal organs or limbs, whether there is enough amniotic fluid and where the placenta is located. Using the measurements of the foetus, we can determine the duration of the pregnancy and the delivery date with the accuracy of 1.5-2 weeks. Identification of the baby’s gender depends on its position.

More information about screenings.

Paid analyses

NIPTIFY screening test

At your discretion, you have the option to undergo a paid NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing) test. This is a non-invasive prenatal test conducted on the mother's blood, which can detect up to 99% of cases of Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, Patau syndrome, and Turner syndrome risk in the fetus, determine the fetal sex, and identify the presence of clinically significant microdeletions. This test is a screening test that is more accurate than the OSCAR test.

For more detailed information on NIPT test options and prices, please refer to the relevant resources.

PrenatalSafe screening for twins for a fee

PrenatalSafe screening can be done starting from 10+ weeks of pregnancy until the end of pregnancy.  The screening is suitable for people expecting twins. The test gives results also in case of in vitro fertilisation and in case of using a donor egg/embryo.
